RESIDENTS of Manaoba island in north Malaita are reportedly face acute water shortage.
A villager Basil Mouraiasi told the Solomon Star the long dry spell for the last two months resulted in the situation.
“At the moment, the wells and water tanks have dried up,” Mr Mouraiasi said.
“People now have to paddle to the mainland to get water for their needs,” he added.
Manaoba island is located in the Lau Mbaelelea constituency.
Mr Mouraiasi claimed on certain days when water containers were empty, people just have to go without drinking water for the day.
“I call on the government authority responsible for disaster situations to come and assess our situation,” he said.
“Our urgent need at this time is drinking water.
“Donations of water tanks to each village would also help in the long run,” he added.
He claimed most people rely on wells for their water.
