THE Miss Solomon Islands pageant 2015 was officially launched yesterday by local events group Solomon Host together with state owned Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA).
SIPA will be the platinum sponsor for this year’s event in their endeavour to support Women empowerment and partnership in Solomon Islands.
Speaking to members of the press yesterday, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Solomon Host Ms Joyce Konofilia said, that it is a challenging effort to host the event and wished to thank SIPA for its generosity in becoming the major sponsor.
“We would like to acknowledge the platinum sponsor of Miss Solomon Islands pageant 2015, Solomon Islands Ports Authority.
“This year, Solomon Host will be the organizer of this event and we have a team and also have advisers too externally.
“We are very happy too, to take up the challenge. It was a very big challenge in the beginning but since SIPA stepped in as the main sponsor, we have overcome it,” the CEO said.
She added that, the only challenge ahead is to organise the event.
In response, SIPA’s Director Commercial and Cruise department Glyn Joshua said that, they have never dreamt of sponsoring the event and it is a milestone for the state owned enterprise.
“SIPA is very happy to be given the opportunity to be the major sponsor. For this initiative, we have never dreamt of becoming part of it.
“We have seen some of these events being organized in the past but we have no idea on how it is being staged.
“When we were given the opportunity, we see that it is time that SIPA gives back to the communities of Solomon Islands and help what the locals have planned to help the country,” Mr Joshua said.
Mr Joshua said that the support is part of SIPA’s quest in Solomon Islands to empower women.
Meanwhile, recruitment for the pageant is now open and will close on Wednesday 21st October. Any interested female between the ages of 18 – 26, single, never been married or given birth nor currently pregnant, one that is interested to develop her confidence, have public speaking skills, get involved in community building exercises is welcomed to apply.
