PREMIERS from the nine Provinces and the City Mayor of Honiara City Council are attending a one day Pre-Premiers Conference at the Heritage Park Hotel today.
The purpose of the conference is to update Premiers including their Provincial Secretaries, along with the City Mayor and the City Clerk on the Gizo Communiqué and the preparations of the 8th Premiers Conference to be held in October.
A statement from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) states that during the meeting, the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening will provide updates on the progress of the Gizo communiqué.
“Also they will be able to see what have been achieved so far in regards to the resolution agreed upon in the 2013 Gizo communiqué,” it said.
The second objective is to get an update on the preparations for the upcoming 8th Premiers Conference which will be presented by the Local Organizing committee (LOC) and the Central Coordination Committee (CCC).
The statement also revealed that after today’s presentation of the official program with further deliberations, it will then be adopted by the Premiers and the Mayor to be the official program of the 8th Premiers Conference.
The local Organizing Committee has already spent an estimated amount of $200,000 towards the preparations from cash and contributions in kind.
There have been challenges faced by the LOC which involves funds, logistics and other issues, however the preparations are progressing well.
The 8th Premiers Conference will be co-hosted by the Guadalcanal Province and the Honiara City Council in October.
