POLICE are calling on the public to respect each other during this recovery period following the devastation of last week’s flash floods.
The floods have so far killed twenty three people and left thousands of others homeless.
Speaking at the weekly Police press conference, Acting Police Commissioner, Juanita Matanga urged the public to respect each other and help one another as everyone is still trying to cope and recover from the ordeal.
“I call on the public to refrain from causing nuisance, and disturbances to others affected by the floods.
“I know we are all affected however, some have lost loved ones and properties whilst others were fortunate not to lose anything.
“Therefore as Solomon Islanders we should help each other recover, and the best way for such is to respect one another,” she said.
Ms Matanga said that avoiding unnecessary consumption of alcohol is a good start as such can trigger unnecessary disturbances and nuisance by people.
