A man who allegedly killed his sister and mother at Leru village, Russell Islands, has been arrested.
Police confirmed the arrest last Saturday night in a statement.
The accused, who police believed was not in his right state of mine, is facing two murder charges.
Police say at around 5pm Friday, he asked his sister and mother to top up his phone.
“When the request was not granted, he took a bush knife and killed both of them before escaping,” the police statement said.
“The matter was quickly reported to police and the suspect was arrested and kept in police custody for further investigations.
“Bodies of the deceased were thoroughly kept for medical post-mortem as police investigations into the incident are continuing.
“We urged members of the public particularly those living around the scene and relatives to assist police investigation.
