HONIARA City Council (HCC) will deal with roadside car wash business in parts of the city.
This follows concern by a number of drivers and the traveling public.
There were concerns and complains raised that this car washing business is on the rise which also disturbed the flow of traffic, disturbs the side of the road and contributes to road deterioration.
Kukum Traffic Police in a statement said, this practice of parking vehicles beside the roads for washing is both dangerous and an offence.
“This is stated in Section 55 of Traffic Act (T/act).
“That obstruction by driver of motor vehicle is also an offence as stated under Section 56(4) of the Traffic Act (T/act).”
But a number of car wash business operators said, its their only way to earn an income for living.
“We see this as a way forward for people like us who don’t have any jobs to earn money,” the man who wants his name withheld said.
The Council said, that they will deal with the practice soon.
“We have visited those sites in Honiara and discussed with the operators about the laws and hope they have understood it.
“They are our people, therefore we will deal with them step by step,” the statement revealed.
The Council said, such business is illegal and against the law. “But it will come to a time that they will have to pay business licenses to run those car wash businesses to be conducted at a proper place and at the right time.
The City Council said, they will work closely with the Traffic Police to deal with the issue soon.
“Nothing is hard, we will deal with the issue as soon as the time is right,” the HCC statement added.
