SEVERAL flood victims from Small Malaita have questioned the system of distribution of relief aid by their Member of Parliament, Rick Hou, claiming that the MP only assisted his supporters and relatives.
Speaking on behalf of the victims, Dutton Mabo said that ever since the floods that has caused 21 deaths, two still missing and thousands homeless, they have seen very little to none assistance provided to them by the MP.
“Since the floods we have recieved visits from our MP however, those visits were only to see his supporters and family members,” Mr Mabo claimed.“Those of us that are known not supporters of Mr Hou are not at all assisted,” he added.
Asked how he and the others know that Mr Hou know they are not his supporters, Mr Mabo said that generalisation of people and where they come from plays a major part in identifying who to assist and who not to assist.
“Take for instance, those of us from Fanalei and Walande, mostly the sea people; we are generalised as those who voted against Mr Hou during the elections.
“Therefore we receive little to no assistance at all from our very own MP,” Mr Mabo said.
Mr Mabo called on Mr Hou to again look at the impact the floods has caused on all Small Malaitans and then assist them accordingly with the funds recently approved by the government to help victims of the floods.
