SOLOMON ISLANDS Football Federation (SIFF) has assembled 61 girls to fight for a place in the under-16 national team.
SIFF Technical director, Patrick Miniti revealed the players on Wednesday to Star Sports.
Mr Miniti said his selection team have indentified potential players and will run trails as of this weekend at Lawson Tama.
“This is a national trial to pick girls for the squad; we will have girls from some of the provinces and Honiara. We would like to select potential players to train and to represent the country in an OFC under 16 girls tournament in august this year,” he told Star Sports.
He added the trail will involve 61 players right down to the final squad.
“This is process that really starts from scratch as we did not have any development programme for the poor girls in the past but we are determining to take up the challenge and hopeful this is a development for the future,” Mr Miniti stressed.
The trails will start this weekend Saturday, 10am to 3pm and Sunday 1-3pm at Lawson Tama.
Mr Miniti is assisted by Taiga Endo (Japanese Volunteer), Prudence and Diane Justus in indentifying players who will be presenting the country in August.
