The Governments of Australia and New Zealand, in partnership with Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) have delivered essential school furniture 14 schools nation-wide.
This is to enhance learning environment in various provinces.
The support was made possible through the Education Sector Support Program (ESSP) where the 14 schools have received 1,558 pieces of furniture, including desks, chairs, bunk beds and cabinets, valued at SBD2.5 million.
This initiative highlights a shared commitment to improving education quality and access for Solomon Islands students.
The furniture complements newly constructed classrooms and dormitories, ensuring these facilities are fully equipped and functional.
By creating safe, comfortable, practical, and practical learning spaces, the initiative aims to foster better educational outcomes and support the long-term development of Solomon Islands’ education sector.
The beneficiary schools include:
- Central Province: Siro Community High School, Siota Provincial Secondary School, and Gella Illau Community High School
- Guadalcanal Province: Turarana Community High School and Lambi Community High School
- Western Province: Goldie College and Tabaka Rural Training Centre
- Choiseul Province: Kukele Community High School
- Isabel Province: Allardyce Provincial Secondary School
- Malaita Province: Hunanawa Community High School and Manawai Community High School
- Makira Province: Ngonihau Community High School, and
- Renbel Province: Siva Primary School.
ESSP will continue providing budget support to MEHRD, focusing on initiatives that enhance education access and quality for all children in Solomon Islands, in line with the Government’s Education Strategic Framework (2016–2030) and National Education Action Plan.
