NINE constituencies in the country have received shipping grants totalling $21.6 million last year.
The revelation was made in the Auditor General’s (AG) report..
The report shows that six of the nine constituencies received $3 million each.
They are Small Malaita, South Vella La vella, East Makira, Savo & Russell, North Malaita and Malaita outer islands constituencies.
The other three constituencies, East Guadalcanal received $300,000, East Central Guadalcanal $700,000. and Rennell & Bellona constituency $2,600,000.
The report said these shipping grants were released during the NACRA government, hence, it is still unknown whether they were used for the intended purpose or not.
The office of the Auditor General had confirmed it is carrying out investigation to determine as to whether the funds were properly discharged for the intended purpose of purchasing boats or vessels.
The Solomon Star is aware, a number of constituencies have been awaiting to welcome the arrival of vessels for their constituencies from overseas but as yet have almost exhausted their eagerness to witness the boats arrivals.
