Dear Editor – I am writing to express my personal views after reading PM’s Special Secretary’s comments in regard to the recent government payout to Breakwater Cafe owners which appeared is Star issue No. 5942.
The tone in Rence Sore’s news release is very easy to see through from any angle that those types of payments are politically motivated and corrupted.
As a simple grassroots man, I see such payment dished out to the already rich millionaire owners of Sun Express as a slap in the face of every ordinary Solomon Islanders who continue to struggle daily to start or expand their small business projects, due to lack of financial support from the government or commercial banks.
It seems “the rich get richer and the poor getting poorer” due to government failures to focus more and give priority to our rural sector business start-ups in providing grant allocations and interest free loans to help make it easy to start or expand any types of business venture or agricultural based projects as the main key corner stone of our economic development to move Solomon Islands forward to a higher level and future prosperity for every Solomon Islanders.
Therefore the only right way to resolve the disputed payment to Sun Express owners is for the company management to do the right thing and return back the full amount to the government through the ministry of finance and let everyone know through the media.
If our leaders want to gain our true respect they must show transparency and accountability in real action in everything they do daily in order to avoid falling into the hands or traps of corrupt business owners or individuals who loves to pass out large brown envelopes filled with huge amounts of cash under the table for special favours.
Sincerely,
James D. Baura
