THE country on Saturday recorded 300 new Covid-19 cases, 64 old cases and four deaths in the past 48 hours.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases to 7940 and 115 Covid-19 deaths registered in the country.
Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), National Health Emergency Operation Center, Incident Controller Dr Nemia Bainivalu confirmed this during the health weekly covid-19 talkback show yesterday over the national broadcaster.
“In terms of the past 48hours including yesterday and today, we recorded another 346 cases. 300 of this are new cases happen over the past 48 hours. 64 are old cases that we updated on the number of cases count,” Dr Bainivalu said.
He explained of the 300 new cases; 52 cases were recorded in Honiara, Guadalcanal Province 6, Malaita Province 12, Isabel Province 44, Western Province 131, Choiseul Province 4 and Makira Province 51.
He added of the 64 new cases; 62 recorded in Western Province and 2 Guadalcanal Province.
“Unfortunately out of the cases reported in the last two days, we have four deaths,” Dr Bainivalu said.
He said four deaths are Covid-19 related, two occurred in Malaita, One in Guadalcanal and one in Western.
Dr Bainivalu said as the Health Minister had updated this week, cases count in Honiara is declining while in the provinces is increasing.
He said now health is working very hard with National Disaster Management Office, the provinces and transport operators like Solomon Airlines and the ships to try and transport Covid-19 medical supplies to health centers in the provinces.
Meanwhile, he said Temotu province still maintain its covid-19 free status.
However, he encouraged people in Temotu to practice Covid1-9 safety measure and get vaccinated.
