Solomon Island will send a men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball squad to compete at the ever first ever FIBA Oceania 3×3 Open Zone Championship in Southport, Gold Coast, Australia.
The competition will start on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September12 and 13.
This is an Oceania event and will see teams from all over the Pacific battle out to take the title.
3×3 is a fast paced and fiercely competitive game that can show case skills and develop urban stars, and it has an organic urban culture that makes it appealing to a wide audience of fans, especially today’s youth.
According to a statement by the 3×3 coordinator and coach, Golden Kiloko, Solomon Island has the potential to excel on the 3×3 basketball code because of our natural physiques, very dynamic paced and aggressively basketball athletes.
“It is the country’s aim to enter and compete at the annual Under 18 yrs FIBA 3×3 World Championship and the Open 3×3 World Championship stage in future,” he stated.
The training squad has commenced its training program starting on Monday this week.
The trainings this week is basically for conditioning and to get players acquainted and familiarize with the game of 3×3.
The final team of 4 players per team for each category will be made known on Monday next week.
Both selected squads will depart Honiara on September 11th.
