EACH ward in Malaita Province is set to receive $20,000 from the provincial government to support celebration marking the Malaita’s Second Appointed Day on August 15th.
This means that the province government will fund total of $660,000 for the celebration.
This initiative marks the second time the provincial government has decentralized the celebrations, allowing all wards across the province to host their own events.
According to reports received by the Solomon Star, several wards have already been informed of the funding and are preparing for the festivities.
Ward 4 Development Committee members confirmed on Sunday that they have already met and drafted plans for the celebration, expecting to receive their allocated $20,000.
Chairman of ward four Development Committee Charlie Fafale confirmed his committee will receive $20,000 to support their event.
Preparations are reportedly underway in various wards, with development committees finalizing budgets and organizing community activities.
This decentralized approach means that each ward is responsible for planning and managing its own celebration.
In a media statement last month, Malaita Province Premier Elijah Asilaua reiterated that the provincial celebration will not be centralized.
Instead, the government is committed to empowering local wards to host their own events.
He also encouraged all Malaitans to work closely with the provincial government to achieve the province’s development goals.
