NINE candidates have been confirmed to contest the Savo/Russells constituency.
That includes the former member Dickson Mua, former speaker of parliament Sir Allan Kemakeza, Aenasi Diosi, Walter Turasi, Leslie Asad, Oliver Salopuka, John Quan, Godfrey Narasia and Constantine Sekudo.
Reports have it that some of the candidates have already done their campaigns over the past week and this week.
Four candidates are from Savo which includes Sir Kemakeza,Turasi, John Quan and Narasia, whilst the rest are from the Russell Islands.
It was reported tensions are high as the other eight candidates vies to unseat the former MP Dickson Mua.
Reports from the province have it that new candidate from Ngali in the Russell Islands could be the challenger to the former MP.
The Solomon Star was told from Russell that Oliver Salopuka who is an indegneious Russell Islander has gained support from his people and could be the likely challenger with a good support.
Asked how things have been done, the out going MP Mua said, things are looking good and hope that the trust and support of his people will remain with him to the Election Day.
Other report from Russells does not go well with Sir Allen’s campaign as he was forced to answer some of the toughest questions.
This paper was told that people in Russell have bombarded Sir Allen with questions asking why he seeks another re-election when during his past 24 years he had done nothing for his people.
But this paper was told Sir Allen has his backing from his Island on Savo despite the opposition he receives from Russell islands.
Meanwhile this paper was told the talk of the day for communities surrounds Mr Oliver and Mua, the former MP.
However some of the constituents of Savo/Russell spoken to said it is still too early to make any conclusions as anything might happen on the polling day as was the case with local politics.
