Dear Editor – I am writing to condemn the stubborn citizens of this country in Honiara who continue to mess Honiara streets with their betel nut stains and their rubbish.
The Honiara City Council (HCC) is trying to help clean up Honiara city but cannot do it by themselves.
As a citizen I feel for Honiara city for their hardworking street officers.
Now I am suggesting that HCC should sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Honiara police to force the street sellers out from the side road from White River to King George.
If they caught selling again they should be arrested on the spot.
The vendors have been warned plenty times to move 7 metres or more from the main road but their advices fell into the deaf and ignorant vendors.
Time is over and time is up. HCC must now take another step to penalise vendors who don’t want to listen.
If the HCC management cannot handle this then they should leave the office so people who can do it take up the job.
This is what happened in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The police help cleaned up Port Moresby and other provincial towns.
Please HCC council find out what happens in PNG. Their city mayor is doing a fine job.
Now I am appealing to the national government and the donors partners to assist HCC in the fight “CLEAN UP HONIARA” with vehicles for law enforcement officers to carry out their duties with the help of the police.
I. Aaron
