April Youth Market to promote local food and culture
THE April Youth Market will be a showcase of local food and culture with the theme “Back to our Roots.”
Youth Market Officer Gino Oti stated the theme is chosen from the Democratic Coalition for Change’s (DCC) policy to help promote local food and acknowledge Solomon Islands’ culture and tradition.
“We want the youth participating in the market to appreciate their culture and local food, not only for the event but also in their everyday life,” said Gino.
The first day of the market will feature a competition for the best Shaggy voice as well as special performances from the Taiwanese Navy who will be visiting the county next week.
The second day will include live performances and a 15 minute talk from the Learning and Ecological Activities Foundation for Children (LEAF), a project that aims to reduce, recycle and reuse waste.
The third day will host the song competition and the last day will feature the dance competition sponsored by Satsol.
Satsol will also be setting up a Wi-Fi hot spot during the event.
In addition, Community Policing will have an awareness stall and will be working closely with Youth@Work to ensure the Youth Market is a peaceful event.
“It will be a long event with positive messages and activities for the youth,” Gino said.
“There will also be live updates on Zfm during the Market.”
April Youth Market will begin on Tuesday to Friday at the Art Gallery.
The market will open at 10am with the stage activities starting at 12 noon and will close at 5pm.
