PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare will be in charge of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury portfolio for short while.
Rawcliff Ziza, Deputy Private Secretary of Government House, confirmed the PM yesterday advised the Governor General to assign the responsibility of this portfolio to him for time being.
Mr Ziza said the advice is for the purpose of passing the resolution to allow Government to spend money before a new budget is tabled in Parliament next year.
He said later the PM will appoint a substantive Minister for Finance and Treasury.
As a result, the Government House has postponed the swearing-in of the last two portfolios namely Ministry of Finance and Treasury and Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services yesterday.
However, political sources claimed the Prime Minister had already appointed the two Minsters yesterday, following their consultation, but decided to delay their public announcement.
A reliable source claimed Mathew Wale and Snyder Rini are earmarked for the two portfolios respectively.
Insiders of the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) have remained tight-lipped over the delay of these appointments.
Attempts to contact PM’s press secretary, Deli Oso yesterday had also proved futile.
