TUWO village on Reef Islands has decided to close the door of its only primary school this week due to shortage of food hitting the island following last month’s cyclone Pam.
The school was closed yesterday morning.
“Tuwo is the most affected village on the island destroyed by cyclone Pam. They decided to close the school because food shortage has really affected them and is starting to get worst,” Reef islander Richard Bapo told the Solomon Star yesterday.
He said the situation had really affected both students and staff.
“After the cyclone, students were not able to attend classes and the academic performance was very poor,” he said.
Mr Bapo said, if the relief supplies were reasonably distributed this could save the school from closing its door.
