MINISTER of Civil Aviation, Peter Shanel plans to negotiate the Air Service Agreement with Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu next year.
This came after Solomon Islands has not struck a fair agreement with the three countries following the impassE last year.
Shanel said he will talk to the representatives of the three airlines so that they can tidy up the current air service agreement.
“We need to spell out what we need to do on the agreement and what we will not do,” he said.
Shanel said he cannot do the negotiation this year because he’s busy with the budget and other programmes in the ministry.
Meanwhile, Shanel said his ministry will re-look on the controversial issuance of airport contracts next year as well.
This came after politicians have influenced their positions to get contracts at both the domestic and international airports.
He said government might come up with a policy to control and manage the distribution of contracts to people.
