THE GOVERNMENT through the Ministry of Health and Medical Services has denied receiving any cheque from Taiwanes government to establish a clinic at Henua Li’i island of Ontong Java, Malaita Outer Island (MOI).
The ministry told the Solomon Star this week they have no idea about the cheque being donated two years ago for the clinic at Henua Li’i island.
However, ROC confirmed to this paper through their media officer that they have delivered the cheque intended for the construction of a clinic to the ministry, and was communicated to Malaita provincial health authority.
ROC office confirmed delivering the cheque, but the ministry and Malaita health authoritys were concerned much about the relocation of the people there.
Therefore ROC was suspicious the fund could be diverted for other purposes.
Malaita Provincial Health Director Dr. Henry Kako said they have no idea about any ROC funds earmarked for a clinic in Lord Howe, except for the $2.9 million donated by Taiwan last year for the renovation of the outpatient ward at Kilu’ufi.
“We are not aware of any funding support for a clinic in the Malaita Outer Island.”
Meanwhile, Wilson Sangahu from Luaniua in Lord Howe atoll who raised the concern about the cheque said they will not relocate from their home land, but want to see the health centre built, as promised during their meeting with ROC two years ago.
