Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Honiara City Central Police Station are conducting an inquiry into the dead body of a male that was discovered at the Mataniko River on 5 December 2020.
An initial report says members of the public discovered the body of the deceased in a boat under the Mataniko China town bridge.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City Superintendent George Paikai says, “Police was called to the scene by members of the public and discovered the body. Police later escorted the dead body to the National Referral Hospital morgue.”
PPC Paikai says, “An inquiry has been established to conduct a post mortem on the body but his family did not give the consent for the post mortem. They told Police they were satisfied with the cause of the death of their son. A doctor only carried out an external examination on the body and offered verbal assertion that the death was of probably of heart failure.”
“Our condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased for the loss of their loved one.”
The body of the deceased has been transported to his home village in North East Guadalcanal for burial.
“Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Central Police station in Honiara will collect other identified issues before the file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director Public Prosecution (DPP) for a view as a matter for any future coronial inquest,” says PPC Paikai.
