REVEREND Michael Sau Bebeu has been elected as the new bishop for the Anglican Diocese of Malaita, Friday.
A statement from the Anglican Church of Melanesian said 47-year-old Reverend Bebeu will succeed the Right Reverend Bishop Sam Sahu who will officially retire on 13th January 2023 after serving the diocese for the last 14 years.
Reverend Sau Bebeu was elected by the Diocesan Electoral Board of the Diocese of Malaita together with the ACOM Provincial Electoral Board at Tetete Ni Kolivuti (TNK) – the headquarters of the Sisters of the Church – at Tenaru.
Reverend Sau Bebeu is currently serving as the Head of School of Mano Wadrokal School of Theology and Ministry at Tasia in the Diocese of Isabel.
He held the post since 2020 and was deputy Head of School at Tasia in 2019.
Prior to that, he was also the principal at Trinity School of Theology and Ministry at Airahu in the Diocese of Malaita from 2014 to 2016.
Reverend Sau Bebeu graduated with a Masters Degree in Theology and Ethics from the Pacific Theological College (PTC in Suva Fiji in 2018. He also completed a Bachelor in Theology from Bishop Patteson Theological College (BPTC), Kohimarama in 2012 and Diploma in Theology also from BPTC in 2002.
He was ordained into the Anglican priesthood on 12th November 2003 at Saint Mark’s Church, Fourau Village in East Malaita. He is from Fourau Village and is married to Mrs Josephine Sau Bebeu from Central Kwara’ae. The couple has three children.
The consecration and installation of Reverend Sau Bebeu is scheduled for 16th April 2023 at the Diocesan Cathedral at Fiu, Malaita Province.
