The Galo Family in Auki, Malaita Province has officially added a third vessel to their growing shipping business with the commissioning of the MV Mere Galo last week.
The vessel was blessed and commissioned by Catholic priest Fr. John Adai during a ceremony in Auki.
According to the Galo family, the new ship will operate regular routes between Honiara and Auki, while also extending services to other parts of the Solomon Islands.
“This expansion arrives at a critical time, as demand for reliable transportation continues to rise in Malaita and surrounding provinces,” said a family representative.
The Galos are no newcomers to the shipping industry. They currently operate MV Chrismari and MV Le3na, both of which primarily serve the Auki route as cargo vessels.
The addition of MV Mere Galo is expected to increase cargo capacity, enhance reliability, and strengthen regional connectivity—a vital boost for trade and travel in the provinces.
MV Mere Galo joins the locally owned MV Ocean Joy as a key vessel serving the Honiara–Auki corridor, contributing to a growing fleet that supports inter-island commerce and community linkages.
