MEMBERS of the Catholic Diocese in Gizo, Western Province fought back tears as they watched the drama featuring the crucifixion of Jesus on Good Friday.
The solemnly commemoration of the annual event was witnessed by Catholic faithful from across the township as they reflected on the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The day began with a procession through the main streets of Gizo, where members of the Catholic community re-enacted the Stations of the Cross—depicting the final hours of Christ’s journey to Calvary.
Led by clergy, lay leaders, young children and youths, the procession attracted a small crowd, with participants of all ages taking part in prayer and reflection.
It was an emotional time for those who turned up to witness the early morning drama.
The final part of the drama took place at the St. Peter Don Bosco Hall where the cross the erected.
The Good Friday service, held at St. Peter’s Cathedral, was marked with hymns, scripture readings, and a powerful homily centered on sacrifice, forgiveness, and hope through faith.
The atmosphere was one of reverence as worshippers gathered to observe one of the most sacred days on the Christian calendar.

In his Good Friday message, the Bishop of Gizo Peter Houhou reminded the faithful of the meaning of the cross, calling on the congregation to embrace humility, compassion, and service to others.
“Good Friday is a reminder of God’s unconditional love.
“It calls us to renew our faith and commit ourselves to living in peace and unity,” he added.
Catholic believers from other communities like Titiana, New Mandra, Nusabaruku and Babanga Catholic communities flooded the church on Good Friday.
After the main service, all the believers placed flowers at the cross of Jesus as a sign of adoration.
The Diocese’s Good Friday observance was part of the wider Holy Week celebrations leading into Easter Sunday, which commemorates the resurrection of Christ.
The Catholic Diocese of Gizo serves communities across the Western and Choiseul Provinces and plays an important role in promoting spiritual and social development throughout the region.
Other Dioceses in Western Province and Choiseul Province also commemorated the Good Friday with drama.
