The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) successfully hosted its second School Rugby Festival on Monday, June 16, at Town Ground Stadium.
The event brought together more than 100 students, aged 8 to 15, from schools located in West Honiara, for a day filled with fun, teamwork, and rugby.
The festival marked the culmination of a four-week basic rugby training program delivered across six participating schools.
At the festival, students showcased their newly acquired skills through warm-up sessions, ball-handling drills, and various fun activities designed to boost confidence and foster a love for the sport.
Sarah Buka, Honiara Development Officer at SIRUF, extended her heartfelt gratitude to the teachers who supported the event.
“We truly appreciate the effort of every teacher who came out today in the scorching sun to make this day a success for the children. It’s because of your commitment that these programs make an impact,” she said.
Beyond the on-field excitement, the School Rugby Festival is part of SIRUF's broader initiative to grow the sport at the grassroots level and create meaningful opportunities for young players across local communities.
