The Principal of Voza Community High School (CHS) in South Choiseul Cleston Kule Ngalavole has raised concerns in the upcoming Principals’ Conference, scheduled for Wednesday to Friday – 25th–27th June 2025 in Honiara.
Mr. Ngalavole stated that while the conference is vital for all school leaders, not everyone has received a letter.
“I contacted the education provider for details on the event and travel arrangements but was informed that attendance was restricted to selected school leaders who had received a formal invitation letter via email from the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD),” He said.
Mr. Ngalavole further explained that he phoned the responsible ministry and the conference organizing committee to verify this but did not receive a clear response.
“I tried to confirm whether the conference was genuinely intended for all principals or only selected schools leaders.
However, my inquiries did not receive any positive feedback or clear answers,” he stated.
“It is discouraging to see that only selected school leaders qualify to attend.”
He emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “It is about time to educate all our school leaders and teachers regarding the new Education Act.”
Mr. Ngalavole also questioned the conference’s theme—“Creating a Better Future for Our Children in the Solomon Islands through Transformational Leadership”—given the selective attendance.
“How can we create a better future for all our children in the Solomon Islands,” he asked, “if leaders and teachers are not properly transformed and well-informed?
“I call on the responsible ministry and the organizing committee to carefully reconsider such an important event before finalizing it, ensuring all leaders are well-informed,” he said.
Despite raising the concerns, he hopes the participants would actively share the knowledge and insights gained during the conference with their colleagues.
