Central Province celebrated its 44th Second Appointed Day at its Provincial Capital Tulagi with a message of unity and resilience.
Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele attended the celebrations, congratulating Premier Hon. Kenneth Sagupari and the Government for Change and Rural Transformation (GCRT) on their election and policies.
The anniversary theme, “Reinforcing Greater Commitment to Resilience Development in Central Province through Openness, Sense of Belonging, Equal Participation, and Sustainability,” was considered timely by the Prime Minister.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration to tackle challenges posed by climate change and limited resources, ensuring that every community has a voice in shaping its future.
PM Manele highlighted the successful completion of over 356 projects valued at SBD 36.2 million through the Provincial Capacity Development Fund (PCDF) since 2008.
This achievement reflects strong governance, as evidenced by receiving four consecutive clean audit opinions.
However, he cautioned that political instability could adversely affect funding.
The national government supports ongoing development priorities, including:
– Completed Tulagi Wharf and Hospital refurbishments, with the Tulagi Ring Road project underway.
– Upgrades to local airstrips and a potential new airstrip at Belulu.
– Establishing a CEMA processing plant on Pavuvu Island and constructing a mini-hospital in the Russell Islands; and
– Infrastructure improvements and expanding educational opportunities.
Prime Minister Manele reaffirmed the importance of aligning provincial policies with the national development agenda to achieve better outcomes for the people.
He urged all stakeholders to renew their commitment to the progress of Central Province, emphasizing that the future relies on collective efforts. “
Let us work together in the spirit of Umi Tugeda,” he stated.
