Su’u National Secondary School (NSS) of Malaita has advanced to the quarterfinals of the boys beach volleyball competition at the 2025 Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISSG25).
This follows a thrilling straight-sets victory over Nguvia on Wednesday, July 2, at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) beach compound.
The impressive duo of Clifford Anisi and Jessie Kairi delivered a dominant performance in front of a packed crowd at the SINIS courts, showcasing skill and composure throughout the match.
Speaking to Star Sports after the win, Su’u coach Steven Olia commended his players for their effort against a formidable Nguvia side.
“Ngivia was a strong team, but we trained hard for this competition and today we proved it by qualifying for the quarterfinals. I’m so proud of the boys’ performance,” Olia said.
Coach Olia also highlighted the challenges the team faced in preparation for the tournament, particularly the lack of beach volleyball facilities back home.
“This is actually their first time competing in a beach volleyball tournament. They usually play indoors, so I’m really proud of how far they’ve come,” he added.
Looking ahead, Olia stressed that the team is treating every upcoming match as a final.
“Our quarterfinal will not be easy, and we’ll work hard to correct the mistakes from today. The goal is clear, we’re aiming for gold,” he declared.
He also thanked the Su’u school community, families, and friends for their strong support and encouraged even more backing as the team prepares for Thursday’s quarterfinal showdown.
Su’u is up against the winner of the match between White River and St. Joseph’s Tenaru.
