The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Band proudly represented the nation at the inaugural Pacific Police Tattoo last week in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The band joining more than 100 police officers from across the Pacific in a vibrant celebration of culture, music and regional policing unity on Tuesday, 22nd July.
Hosted by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC), with support from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the event was held as part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Papua New Guinean independence.
It showcased the musical talents of nine police bands, including the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Band.
Their performance highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Solomon Islands and contributed to the spirit of unity and collaboration among Pacific law enforcement agencies.
RPNGC Commissioner David Manning praised all participating bands. “This event has deepened the bonds between our organisations, and has also demonstrated the strength of regional policing partnerships in action.”
The Solomon Islands contingent stood proudly alongside bands from Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, Nauru and PNG, sharing traditional music and fostering friendships across borders.
Their participation underscored the Solomon Islands’ commitment to regional peace, security and cultural exchange.
The Solomon Islands band was celebrated for its cultural contributions and musical excellence.
AFP Assistant Commissioner Pacific Command Nigel Ryan emphasised the importance of such events in strengthening regional ties.
“The Tattoo has brought together police tradition with Pacific music and culture, showcasing and strengthening our partnerships in ways that go beyond simply policing,” Assistant Commissioner Ryan said.
The performance follows a month long deployment to Honiara from the Australian Army Band, providing training support to the RSIPF Band as they prepared for the Tattoo.
Australia’s Defence Advisor to Solomon Islands, Captain Emma Griffiths RAN, said Australia recognised the importance of music in the Pacific.
“Australia’s Chief of Defence Force, Admiral David Johnstone AC RAN, welcomed the opportunity to open the newly refurbished RSIPF Band Hut at Rove during his recent visit and was pleased to hear the excellent performances from the combined RSIPF and ADF Bands at Solomon Islands’ Independence Day parade.
“Defence continues to provide support to the RSIPF Band under the Defence Cooperation Program in Solomon Islands,” Captain Emma Griffiths said.
