The Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination has a new Permanent Secretary (PS). He is Brian Lenga who was sworn in on Tuesday.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at Government House, officiated by the Governor General, His Excellency Sir David Tiva Kapu.
With over 19 years of experience in international development program management, design, implementation, and research in the Pacific region, Mr. Lenga brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
His academic background includes a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the University of South Pacific (2006), a Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies from USP (2004), and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science & Public Administration from the University of Papua New Guinea (2001).
Mr. Lenga’s leadership experience includes notable positions such as:
- Team Leader for the MCC-Solomon Islands Threshold Program (2024-2025)
- Deputy Chief for the PROJECT Governance program, funded by USAID and implemented by the Pacific Community (2022-2024)
- Deputy Head of Program for Australia’s Solomon Islands Governance Program, funded by DFAT and implemented by Cardno Emerging Markets (2018-2022)
- Team Leader of the UNDP Governance and Social Cohesion Program (2016-2017)
- Regional Director for the Commonwealth Pacific Governance Facility (2013-2014)
He specializes in conflict analysis, peacebuilding, parliamentary development, civic education, public finance management, public sector reform, and political and electoral reforms.
Upon his swearing-in, Mr. Lenga pledged to serve the Government to the best of his ability during his term of service.
