Two suspects who have been arrested by Auki police recently were fined $200.00 each with a default of 20 days imprisonment in Auki Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Max Haniel delivered the decision on 25 July 2025 after the duo was arrested and charged by Auki police for consuming alcohol in a moving vehicle.
The prosecutor presented the case before Magistrate Haniel, and he applauded the police for the good work.
Such small offenses occurred on a regular basis and are now taken seriously and reported.
Magistrate Haniel said, “It is high time to teach the general public on such matters. Both defendants have been warned never to be involved in such a crime since one of the defendants is a high school student.”
Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea commended his officers for the arrest and the prosecutor for the good result.
“This will demonstrate that the laws of this country must be enforced to guide and teach our people.”
PPC Malaita appeals to travelling passengers and drivers who used to drink alcohol in moving vehicles to stop. This is an offense. If you do not want police arrest, drink your beer at the right place to avoid arrests.
