The Fiji U-16 Boys national team led by the rising football star Maikah Lomax Dau as the captain for the OFC U-16 Championship 2025 will arrive in Honiara on Thursday.
The competition will be held in Honiara starting Sunday August 17 to Saturday 30th August at the Lawson Tama stadium.
A statement issued by Fiji FA on Wednesday evening said, Dau will be assisted by Saula Mautini and Arnav Chand, who will serve as vice captains for the tournament.
Dau, who also captained the U-16 squad at last year’s OFC Championship in Tahiti, will once again lead the young Bula Boys into one of the Pacific’s most prestigious youth football tournaments.
His leadership, work ethic, and consistent performances at both domestic and international levels were highlighted as key reasons for his reappointment.
Head coach Sunil Kumar expressed full confidence in the leadership group.
“Maikah brings not only skill but also maturity beyond his years. His ability to inspire his teammates and keep them focused will be vital as we aim for a back-to-back qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
“Saula and Arnav will provide strong support as vice captains, ensuring leadership across all areas of the pitch.”
The OFC U-16 Championship serves as the official pathway to the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026, with Fiji set to face tough competition from regional heavyweights.
