The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) under the Noro Road Improvement Project has applauded the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for its continuous community engagement through free training and awareness programs.
In July and August this month, CCECC rolled out a series of defensive driving awareness trainings targeting vehicle drivers in Noro and Munda.
The initiative, part of the company’s social responsibility, aimed to raise awareness on road and traffic safety while equipping drivers with the knowledge to prevent accidents and save lives.
The training covered key topics including an introduction to defensive driving, safe driving techniques, the importance of road safety, identifying driving hazards, understanding traffic signs, road markings, and speed limits.
Speaking to Solomon Star, CAC Chairman Isaiah Alepio explained, the program’s main goal is to ensure drivers understand the basic rules of traffic and road safety to prevent unnecessary accidents that may lead to injury, loss of life, and damage to property.

“Many drivers have never been exposed to the meaning of certain road signs and markings, which are designed to warn motorists of hazards.
“But with the road now improved, some drivers tend to speed and drive recklessly, endangering other road users, including pedestrians,” he added.
He described the awareness training as; “a step forward towards making Noro a safer town in terms of road safety.”
Mr. Alepio also extended his gratitude to other stakeholders, including the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) inspection officers, police and the Noro Town Council, for their support in making the training a success.
“I also appreciate the positive response from individual drivers and organizations who sent their drivers to attend the program,” he said.
He said, CAC will continue to support the good work of CCECC and looks forward to the completion of the project by October 2025.
