Pelican Shipping Ltd has announced that both of its vessels, Pelican 1 and Pelican 2 are temporarily out of service because of the need to undergo scheduled maintenance.
In a notice issued to the traveling public and intending passengers, the company said, the move is part of its ongoing commitment to ensure vessels remain safe, reliable, and comfortable for travelers.
“We will announce the date for resumption of services once maintenance is completed. Thank you for your understanding and support,” the management stated.
The announcement comes following an incident on Friday when Pelican Express 1, en-route from Honiara to the Western Province, was forced to return to Yandina following an engine failure.
The disruption left many passengers frustrated and raised concerns over the reliability of shipping services.
Meanwhile, the MV Marina 2 vessel has been out of service since May for maintenance purpose.
MV Marina 2, has since providing affordable and convenient shipping services for the Honiara–Gizo route.
Domestic passengers have praised Marina 2 for its quality service in both cargo and passenger services.
With Marina 2 and Pelican Express 1 currently unavailable, only MV Fair Lady remains active in providing weekly services to all Western Province ports each Sunday.
