The inaugural East Vella Cup 2025 is underway in the South East Vella constituency, Western Province, marking a historic milestone for sports development in the region.
The opening round last week and this week delivered exciting football action, with Sinei Green FC edging past DeepDeep Green FC 1–0 in a tightly contested match.
Niaro Red FC and Mara Kale FC battled to a goalless draw, while Viluta FC showed dominance with a commanding 3–0 win over Eleoteve FC. In the day’s final clash, Jokael FC sealed a 2–0 victory over Mud Skipper FC.
Large crowds especially villagers from Ward 8 gathered to cheer on their teams, reflecting the strong community spirit and enthusiasm for the tournament.
Speaking at the opening ceremony early last week, Western Provincial Government (WPG) Minister for Sports, Hon. Eric Hitu, praised the organisers for their hard work and commitment.
“First and foremost, we must acknowledge the Almighty God for His continuous blessings every day. Today marks another milestone with the launch of the first East Vella Cup 2025,” Minister Hitu said.
“It’s not easy to organise such an event; however, we are witnessing your commitment and dedication,” he added.
MPA for Ward 8, Eleoteve Kadiba Alu, also commended the initiative, noting its importance in promoting sports and unity within the constituency.
The East Vella Cup will continue in the coming days, with teams vying for top honours in what is set to become a key fixture in the Ward’s 8 sporting calendar.
The East Vella Cup is sponsored by Member of the Parliament (MP) for Southeast Vella Hon. Fredrick Kologeto who is also the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM).
