The development of the new Choiseul Provincial Township is progressing steadily, with major groundwork now underway at the Choiseul Bay.
Reports from Taro confirmed that the project is taking shape, marking an important milestone in the province’s ambitious plan to establish a modern township that will provide improved facilities, services, and infrastructure for its people.
Authorities and stakeholders have expressed satisfaction with the pace of the development, highlighting its potential to boost economic opportunities and raise the standard of living for communities in Taro and across Choiseul Province.
Speaking to the Solomon Star this week, Township Office representative Isaac Lekelalu said, the project is on track.
“By the end of 2026, our new township will feature up to 30 kilometers of access roads, linking communities from Vuruvachu to Taba Ward,” Lekelalu explained.
“The township will stretch from Nukiki to Ngalivoli, and bridge designs to connect the lots are now progressing.”
He further revealed that land clearance continues this year at Tarepasika, while feeder roads at Tarekukure will be constructed to support new facilities such as a hospital, light industries, seaport, and cemetery zone.
“Utilities including water supply and renewable energy are also being designed, while land negotiations are ongoing,” he added.
Local workers are already engaged in the project, camping at the construction site and assisting with various works.
Lekelalu also noted that new road access is proving useful for market vendors transporting produce between Choiseul Bay and Ngalivoli.
The infrastructure development is expected to transform the new township into a strategic hub for economic growth and administrative services in the province.
“The township will not only improve connectivity but also create opportunities, making travel easier for communities and stimulating Choiseul’s economy,” Lekelalu said.
Solomon Islands Government is supporting the new township development.
