Honiara is set to welcome around 300 delegates, including 15 government ministers next week for the 9th Pacific Water and Wastewater Ministers Forum and the 16th Pacific Water and Wastewater Association (PWWA) Conference and Expo (PWWC25).
The event will take place from Monday 25 to Friday 29 August 2025 at the National Aquatic Centre and Food Court in the Sports City, Honiara.
Some delegates have already arrived in the country, while others are expected over the weekend.
Director of Water Resources at the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE), Mr. Richard Molea, confirmed that preparations are well underway.
He said the opening ceremony will be held at the Friendship Hall on Monday.
The Ministers Forum will be hosted at the Food Court, while the Conference and Expo, including sessions for young water professionals, will be held at the Aquatic Centre.
This year’s theme is: “Water and Wastewater for All: Connecting people, policies, and communities for a shared sustainable future.”
The gathering will bring together water and wastewater utility professionals, policymakers, researchers, young professionals, and development partners from across the Pacific and beyond.
It aims to foster collaboration and showcase innovative solutions to strengthen water and wastewater services in the region.
In parallel, the Pacific Water and Wastewater Ministers (PWWM) will meet for one and a half days to deliberate on critical water security issues. Their objectives include:
- Elevating the collective Pacific voice on water security as a pillar of development, resilience, and regional security.
- Advancing sustainable financing and capacity-building opportunities to accelerate action on water security.
The event is jointly organised by the Solomon Islands Government, the Solomon Islands Water Authority (Solomon Water), the PWWA Secretariat, and the Pacific Community (SPC), with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Last year, the Cook Islands hosted the forum and conference in Rarotonga.
The Government and Solomon Water have extended a warm welcome to all participants, reaffirming the Solomon Islands’ commitment to resilient, inclusive, and sustainable water and wastewater services for all.
