The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) has announced that preparations are well underway for the first-ever Women’s Rugby 15s trial, set to take place on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025.
Training sessions have been progressing strongly, with an encouraging turnout of around 26 committed female athletes attending each session.
The growing enthusiasm reflects a significant step forward in advancing women’s rugby in the Solomon Islands.
For the trials, players are being grouped into two combined teams:
• Team 1 – Avaiki, Diesel, and SINU
• Team 2 – Tavuli, Crusaders, and SOSA

SIRUF warmly welcomes new players who wish to participate and encourages anyone interested to join either team.
“We are witnessing an exciting new chapter for women’s rugby in the Solomon Islands,” said Sarah Buka, SIRUF’s Honiara Development Officer.
“This initiative is not about playing the game, it’s about creating opportunities, building confidence and empowering women through sports.”
Solomon Rugby extends special thanks to Team Ryder for their invaluable contribution to the growth of women’s rugby in the country.
“Their mentorship has been instrumental in preparing our women for this historic milestone.
A heartfelt acknowledgment also goes to rugby sevens legend William Ryder, alongside Eddie, Ben, Mitchie, and Dulo, for dedicating their time and expertise despite their demanding schedules ahead of the upcoming HRUA semi-finals,” the statement said.
