Days after donating vehicles to the Solomon Islands Government (SIG), the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has donated police assets and equipment valued at just under 2 million Solomon Islands Dollars (SBD) to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele, during the ceremony on Friday acknowledged the timely support.
He highlighted the growing and mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries since establishing diplomatic relations in 2019.
Friday’s donation included; police equipment, communication systems, power generation devices, uniforms, and community policing supplies — all carefully tailored to meet RSIPF’s operational needs.
The Prime Minister emphasized the strategic importance of this donation, especially as the Solomon Islands prepares to host the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in September 2025.
“This support builds sustainable capabilities within our police force, enabling them to maintain peace and security independently,” PM Manele underlined.
Since 2019, around 300 RSIPF officers have received advanced training and study tours in China, with seven officers currently undertaking five-year police scholarships.
Previously, equipment and vehicles valued at over SBD 4.5 million were donated to the force.
He also praised the RSIPF for their professionalism and dedication to enhancing operational readiness, referencing the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) demonstration that followed the ceremony.
The Prime Minister reiterated the critical importance of accountability and proper management of the donated assets to ensure they are used effectively for the safety and security of the nation and its people.
PM Manele reaffirmed the Solomon Islands’ commitment to continued partnership with China, aimed at fostering regional security and prosperity.
