Green Shield FC are back on top of the Telekom S-League after a 2-0 victory over Kossa FC in a heated clash on Sunday at Lawson Tama Stadium.
The league resumed over the weekend following a June break, with three exciting matches played.
The feature 3pm showdown between Green Shield and Kossa was packed with drama, including three red cards issued in the first half.
After a tense and goalless opening period, Emmanuel Hou broke the deadlock early in the second half when his strike slipped past Kossa goalkeeper Timothy Maerasia.
Kossa, reduced to nine men, continued to battle, with new signing Jaygray Sipikana proving a constant threat.
However, Green Shield capitalized on their numerical advantage, and Kiren Israel sealed the win with a late goal.
Shields coach Aumanu praised his side’s resilience and discipline after the match.
“The first game of the second round is always the hardest, especially after a long break. But my boys stuck to our game plan, so congratulations to them for their efforts,” Aumanu said.
He admitted his team also had to adjust after receiving a red card.
“We had a solid plan coming in, and discipline was a big part of it. Both teams faced the same issue today, but we are happy to come out on top,” he added.
With round two now underway, anticipation builds as teams enter the decisive stage of the season. Action continues this weekend at Lawson Tama Stadium.
