Dear Editor – I write to highlight a crucial issue concerning— the fundamental right of every child to attend school and receive a quality education in the Solomon Islands.
Education is a cornerstone for personal development and national progress. Yet, many children in the Solomon Islands face significant barriers preventing them from accessing school.
These challenges include geographical isolation, lack of adequate infrastructure, economic hardships, and occasional social or cultural complications.
Denying children this basic right not only hampers their future opportunities but also undermines the growth and stability of the entire nation.
As a society, we must prioritize ensuring that every child, regardless of their background or location, has access to education. This involves investing in schools, training teachers, providing learning materials, and creating inclusive, safe environments where children can learn and thrive.
The Solomon Islands government, alongside community leaders and international partners, must renew their commitment to uphold children’s rights, particularly their right to education.
When children are empowered with knowledge, they can better contribute to their communities and help shape a brighter future for the entire country.
I urge all stakeholders to act decisively to overcome the barriers to education and guarantee that no child in the Solomon Islands is left behind.
Sincerely,
Mark Koethivoa
