Dear Editor – I write to express my concern about the state of governance in our beloved Solomon Islands.
While we acknowledge the many challenges our government faces, it is important to recognize that weak governance continues to affect service delivery, transparency, and public trust in institutions.
Decision-making is often delayed and, at times, appears more influenced by those who have authority than by the needs of citizens. Issues such as misuse of public funds, lack of accountability in constituency development funds, and slow implementation of key policies undermine public confidence in government.
Good governance requires more than leadership, it demands strong systems that uphold accountability, transparency, and fairness.
For example, the proper auditing of constituency funds and strengthening of anti-corruption mechanisms would go a long way in restoring people’s trust.
Equally important is the active participation of citizens in decision-making, so that policies reflect the true needs of our communities.
I urged our leaders to prioritize governance reforms. A system that is transparent and accountable will not only foster trust but also promote sustainable development for the future generations of Solomon Islanders.
Yours sincerely
