Noro Kungfu Club in Western Province successfully hosted its 2025 grading ceremony over the weekend marking another milestone in the history of the Solomon Islands Kungfu movement.
The event, held on September 26 and 27, brought together students, invited guests, and supporters, with special recognition given to Sifu Sam Alasia for his ongoing support.
Assistant Sifu and Chief Instructor of Noro Kungfu Club, Ishmael Kuvi, highlighted the importance of grading as a symbol of commitment and discipline in martial arts.
“Grading is not a piece of cake where you just take it for granted. It covers behaviors, attitudes, and character in discipline.
“It also fosters day-to-day well-being in the community,” Kuvi told participants
The 2025 grading in Noro saw 15 students and members assessed, with hopes to increase the number to 30 or more in 2026 and beyond.
Students came from different islands in the Solomon Islands, with many balancing their training alongside work and family commitments.
He also announced plans for the expansion of Kungfu clubs in the Western Region and Choiseul Province.

Discussions are underway with the Choiseul Provincial Government to establish a Kungfu Club in Taro by April 2026, while similar talks will be held with the Western Provincial Government to open a club in Gizo by March 2026.
“In Solomon Islands, Kungfu signifies skill acquired through dedication, practice, and discipline.
“It is not only martial arts but also the art of mastering skills through sustained effort, which can apply to many aspects of life,” Kuvi told Star Sports in an interview this week.
Kuvi thanked Sifu Sam for traveling to Noro once again to lead the grading and acknowledged the support of the wider Kungfu community, including Honiara’s Joy-shin Mon Tai Kiok Kuen Kungfu School.
“The club appreciates your coming and the commitments offered to us. These students achieved their belts through hard work and dedication in martial arts,” Kuvi added.
