Honiara – The Governments of Australia and New Zealand, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), through the Education Sector Support Program (ESSP), on Tuesday, 30th September 2025, handed over 1,096 flash drives to Honiara and Guadalcanal Education Provider representatives.
Held at the King George VI National Secondary School in Honiara, the handover ceremony represents a step towards more equitable and accessible education delivery across Solomon Islands.
The flash drives will ensure that geographical location, infrastructure limitations, and resource constraints are not a barrier to school leaders and teachers accessing education policies and high-quality curriculum materials.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, Dr. Franco Rodie, shared that the partnership between the Solomon Islands, Australian, and New Zealand governments continues to improve access to quality education resources for all Solomon Islands children.
“We sincerely acknowledge and thank the Governments of Australia and New Zealand, through the ESSP, for their generous support in providing these vital digital resources.
“These resources have the potential to strengthen the capacity of our teachers, school leaders, and education providers, and to significantly enhance the quality of education and improve student learning outcomes across the country.
“In this digital age, such support is not just strengthening our education system—it is opening brighter futures for every child in the Solomon Islands,” he added.
A total of 4,500 flash drives pre-loaded with curriculum materials and key documents under the Education Legislative Framework (ELF), including the 2023 Education Act and Administrative Instructions, will be distributed to Provincial Education Providers to deliver to all schools across all provinces.

This collaborative initiative will enable Education Providers, school leaders, and teachers access to high-quality educational resources, strengthening teaching capacity and contributing to improved learning outcomes.
The support is a creative solution to address challenges often encountered in the distribution of education resources across the provinces.
Traditional hard copy distribution methods are costly and time-consuming, leaving many schools and teachers without reliable access to essential resources.
The flash drives represent an immediate, cost-effective, and sustainable solution. Schools equipped with computers, together with teachers and principals who have access to smartphones, will now be able to conveniently access the Education Act 2023, Administrative Instructions, Education Funding Code, Learning Framework, and the newly published curriculum materials to support the teaching and learning of subjects offered in schools.
Bringing together key stakeholders, the handover ceremony included officials from MEHRD, Australian and New Zealand High Commissions, and representatives from Guadalcanal and Honiara Education Providers and schools.
Moving forward, ESSP will work closely with MEHRD to allocate and distribute the flash drives to the other Provincial Education Providers, who will ensure distribution to schools within their respective regions.
