The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka has praised Japan for hosting the World Expo 2025.
Minister Agovaka delivered the Solomon Islands’ statement during the National Day Celebration at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka – Kansai, Japan on Thursday.
In his remarks, Minister Agovaka extended warm greetings from the Government and people of Solomon Islands and thanked distinguished guests for joining the celebration of Solomon Islands’ National Day at the Expo.
The Minister congratulated the Government and people of Japan for successfully hosting this extraordinary event, which has brought together more than 160 countries and organizations to share identities, innovations, and ideas under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”
“Solomon Islands is privileged to be part of this global gathering. The Expo not only allows us to showcase our unique culture and identity on the world stage, but also provides valuable opportunities to engage in meaningful dialogue and exchange with other nations,” Minister Agovaka stated.

Minister Agovaka encouraged all visitors to the Expo to engage with Solomon Islands’ story and explore its pavilion to experience the nation’s rich culture and traditions.
He concluded by reaffirming Solomon Islands’ commitment to fostering stronger ties with Japan and other Expo partners while celebrating its national identity on the global stage.
The Solomon Islands booth was located in a pavilion used by a number of Pacific, Caribbean and African countries.
Thousands of visitors have seen the Solomon Islands showcase their products on the global stage.
Minister Agovaka shared the stage as guest of honour with Japan’s Parliamentary Vice- Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Ikuina Akiko.
Important delegates from the Osaka Expo Committee and Osaka city were also at hand to witness the event.
Minister Agovaka also used his address to highlight the deep and enduring friendship between Solomon Islands and Japan since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 1st September 1978, just after Solomon Islands gained independence.
He emphasized that Japan has been a steadfast partner in Solomon Islands’ development journey, with major contributions.
