The 2025 Pacific Cup Hockey Tournament which supposed to be held in Honiara later this year has been canceled.
This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands Hockey Federation (SIHF) in a statement on Thursday.
“The Solomon Islands Hockey Federation (SIHF) wishes to inform all players, officials, sponsors, and supporters that the Oceania Hockey Federation (OHF) has made the decision to cancel the 2025 Pacific Cup Hockey Tournament, which was scheduled to be held in Honiara later this year.”
According to the OHF, the decision was made after careful consideration of the financial challenges currently faced by several participating national federations, including Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Tonga, and Papua New Guinea, which are unable to send teams to this year’s event.
SIHF expresses its disappointment at the cancellation, as the national teams and officials have been preparing extensively for this year’s edition.
“However, we fully respect and understand the decision made by the OHF and acknowledge the financial pressures faced by many Pacific Island federations.”
The Pacific Cup remains an important regional competition for hockey development, providing opportunities for players to gain international exposure and strengthen regional ties.
SIHF will continue to collaborate closely with the OHF and other member federations to ensure the successful return of the Pacific Cup in 2026.
“We thank our athletes, partners, and supporters for their ongoing commitment to the growth of hockey in the Solomon Islands and across the Pacific region,” the statement concluded.
