China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) recently conducted Artificial Intelligence (AI) anti-fraud training for more than 20 officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF).
The session held at the Central police statioin was aimed at enhancing the RSIPF capacity to detect and combat telecommunications fraud involving AI technologies.
During the session, CPLT officer Superintendent Zhang Yukun introduced the global background of cross-border telecom fraud and analysed the Solomon Islands’ current network environment.
In the session, they highlighted the growing misuse of AI in fraud schemes and its challenges, such as low cost and high realism, which make detection increasingly difficult.
Through live demonstrations, the instructors showcased AI-powered voice synthesis, video face-swapping, and intelligent script generation, allowing participants to witness firsthand how criminals exploit these technologies.
CPLT officers also shared the ‘three checks and three verifications’ method—a practical approach to identifying AI-driven telecom scams—and provided advice on personal data protection and the use of anti-fraud tools.
Superintendent Yukun said, “AI brings both opportunities and threats, but when it comes to threats, strengthening awareness and cooperation is key to maintaining public safety.”
At the end of the training, officers actively engaged in discussion, raising questions about investigation procedures and digital evidence collection.
CPLT offered detailed answers and shared relevant experiences from international cases.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Crime and Intelligence Ms. Patricia Leta praised the CPLT for its professional and timely support in such training to equip our RSIPF officers.
AC Leta said, “This training is relevant to our policing needs. It strengthens our understanding of AI-related crimes and enhances our operational readiness. We value our close cooperation with the CPLT in building a safer Solomon Islands.”
She said, the training, tailored to local policing realities, has deepened the RSIPF’s awareness and preparedness against AI-facilitated fraud, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration between China and the Solomon Islands in combating transnational telecommunications crimes.
Officers from the National Crime Prevention Department, the National Prosecution Department, and the Central Police Station participated in the training.
