RURAL women in Munda Western Province have joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Rural Women’s Day last week.
The Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Munda Ward 15 Palin Veo was the guest at the event.
Speaking during the event, the MPA\ called for greater recognition and support for women in rural communities.
He described rural women as the “backbone of food systems and community life,” acknowledging their tireless efforts in sustaining families and contributing to the local economy.
He added, women in rural areas are farmers, caretakers, and leaders who work tirelessly to nourish families and communities despite challenges such as limited access to resources and opportunities.
“These women demonstrate incredible determination and creativity,” he added.
The MPA emphasized the need for equal access to education, healthcare, and technology for rural women, noting that empowering women means empowering entire communities.
“When women thrive, families flourish, and whole societies benefit,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of supporting policies that promote gender equality and rural development.
In attendance were invited guests including Munda Area Officer Lorna Zio, Munda Market Master Poe Rove, President of Munda Market Vendors and Women’s Representative from the Western Provincial Government Lisi Wong, Women’s Representative for Ward 16, Pastor Ernest Kera of AOG, and several other guests.
During the program, guests also acknowledged the crucial roles rural women play in family, community, and government development.
The MPA concluded by urging all to continue working together to ensure that every rural woman has the opportunity to reach her full potential.
