The National Steering Committee (NSC) of the World Bank-funded Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2) has acknowledged the ongoing progress on major transport infrastructure in five provinces.
This was during the Committee’s third quarterly meeting of 2025 on October 1.
At this meeting they were able to assess progress on major transport infrastructure initiatives across Temotu, Isabel, Malaita, Western and Guadalcanal Provinces.
Chaired by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA), Alwyn Danitofea, the meeting brought together senior government officials and provincial leaders to review implementation milestones and address challenges.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing connectivity, safety, and economic development through strategic infrastructure investments.
Richard Farrell, International Project Manager of the SIRAP2 Project Support Team (PST), delivered a comprehensive progress briefing, highlighting exceptional items, achievements and ongoing works.
The Committee commended the dedication of implementing partners, emphasizing the transformative impact of these investments on regional accessibility and opportunity.
The Permanent Secretary for the MCA, Alwyn Danitofea, said, “We are pleased with the commitment and professionalism shown by our contractors, supervising consultant, and SIRAP2 PST.
“These investments are vital for enhancing connectivity, safety, and economic growth across Solomon Islands, and we remain focused on ensuring they are delivered efficiently and to the highest standards.”
The NSC, comprising Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Finance and Treasury, Communication and Aviation (MCA), Infrastructure Development (MID), and Provincial Secretaries from Western, Malaita, Temotu, Guadalcanal, and Isabel Provinces, plays a critical oversight role in guiding SIRAP2 implementation and making strategic decisions.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Secretaries from Temotu (Casper Tuplo), Isabel (Norman Hiropuhi), and Western Provinces (Patrick Toiraena), the Permanent Secretaries of the MID (Allan Lilia) and MCA, Deputy Secretary – Technical of MID (Mike Qaqara), SIRAP2 PST International Project Manager and National Project Manager (Edrick Maeniuta), and the Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Limited (SIACL) Asset and Maintenance Manager (Trevor Veo).
The meeting concluded with renewed commitment to collaboration and excellence in delivering infrastructure that supports the nation’s long-term development goals.
